Equipment Operations Assistant: Full-Time

About the position: This person will work directly with the Equipment Operations Manager to achieve the needs of the farm week-to-week. They will be trained to use our different tractors, tools, and implements and should expect to grow in autonomy after the initial training period. The majority of time will be spent in the fields: mowing, discing, spading, harrowing, prepping beds, undercutting, sowing cover crop, and cultivating. They will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance of our tractors and vehicles as well as our work spaces. With any spare time, this person will join the vegetable and berry harvest crew. Looking for a multiple-season committment. On-site, single occupancy housing is included, and pay is commensurate with experience.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

Receives a weekly task list and budgets time to ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely fashion

Checks and monitors soil moisture to ensure tillage is happening at the right time

Responsible for assisting in the maintenance of our tractors and vehicles as well as our work spaces

Rotating weekend work: Greenhouse watering, U-Pick events on farm

Desired Skills & Experience:

Minimum of one season experience operating farm machinery

Experience servicing equipment is a plus

Self-starter with excellent time management

Front Porch Farm is a 110-acre diverse organic farm situated on the Russian River just 10 minutes from downtown Healdsburg in Northern California. Each year we grow roughly 12 acres of vegetables and berries, 4 acres of cut flowers, 2 acres of Floriani flint corn, 15 acres of wine grapes, and maintain a plethora of fruit trees. At our neighboring property—Acorn Ranch—we also raise heritage lamb. With ecological farming principles at the heart of what we do, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land.

At Front Porch Farm the days are long and the tasks are strenuous, so we aim to build a team with a strong work ethic that supports each other in maintaining a positive & healthy working environment. We strive to find the delicate balance between working hard and having fun. Our community is bilingual and multicultural, and some of our farm’s core values are inclusivity and connection across these lines. We work 40-50 hours per week on the farm with occasional weekend responsibilities.
